Season Ten of Bob's Burger's has been a fun, quality-filled ride so far and the latest entry in the season - Episode Twelve: A Fish Called Tina - continues that welcome trend. The new episode follows two main plotlines, one which sees Tina mentoring a young child - something she has looked forward to for years - while the other follows Bob and Linda beind taken advantage by the gym next door. Keep on reading for the full review but be warned that there will be spoilers!
A Fish Called Tina spends most of its time following the eldest Belcher child, Tina, as she wears her heart on her sleeve like usual and keeps her foot in her mouth. When she was younger, Tina was inspired by her "big fish" which was an older child who mentored her. Ever since she imagined how magical the relationship would be between her and her very own little fish, but unfortunately not everything is sunshine and roses when the time comes.
In the episode Tina pushes herself past the boundaries of her little fish and screws up any opportunity she has to actually connect with the young girl. Refusing to give up, she continues to make things worse and even tracks down her old role model though it still doesn't help. Ultimately, it is the youngest and wisest Belcher child, Louise (Kristin Schaal, Last Man On Earth) that saves the day for her sister with the help of their brother Gene and the plotline comes to a heartwarming close with all three siblings in their prime.
Meanwhile, the series takes a not-so-subtle stab at gyms that take advantage of unsuspecting members by locking them into contracts. A new Gym opens next to the restaraunt and Bob and Linda are roped into signing a contract by getting hyped up during their free day though they soon realized that no one mentioned to them how sore they would be post-workout. Employing the assistance of long-time family friend Teddy, the three adults go all out in embarrassing themselves in the gym until the other customers continue to leave and eventually this resolves in them being released from their contract.
The newest episode of Bob's Burgers certainly doesn't make the top ten list of the best in the series, but that says more about the consistent and strong quality that the show puts out on a regular basis than it does negatively about the episode itself. A Fish Called Tina accentuates how sweet and loving Tina is and just how far her siblings are willing to go to protect her. Meanwhile, the plot of Bob and Linda vs. Pumpin Patch Fitness is thoroughly enjoyable through and through.
A Fish Called Tina merits several viewings just as most episodes of the lovable show does. Gene lands a bevy of brilliant lines as usual, Louise is just as witty as ever, and Tina will make your heart melt as expected while the elder Belchers once again get in over their heads in a hilarious situation. A decade into the series this title is still pumping out strong hits like this and it leaves one hopeful for tonight's episode and the remainder of the season to come - not to mention the already announced movie.
