The groundbreaking hit series The Proud Family celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday (September 15th) and a new featurette has been released in honor of the big occasion. The video, included below, sees a few stars from the upcoming revival (The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder) share what the original animated series meant to them, including Normani who calls her grandmother Suga Mama "because it's literally what my household looked like."
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, which is set to launch on Disney+ in 2022, will pick up the story of Penny Proud and her madcap family and loyal crew. Returning cast members include Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, JoMarie Payton as Suga Mama, Cedric the Entertainer as Uncle Bobby, Carlos Mencia as Felix Boulevardez, Maria Canals-Barrera as Sunset Boulevardez, Alvaro Gutierrez as Papi, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer, and Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez.
Recurring voices for the upcoming show include Keke Palmer as Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, Billy Porter as Randall Leibowitz-Jenkins, Zachary Quinto as Barry Leibowitz-Jenkins, and EJ Johnson as Michael Collins.
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is currently in production at Disney Television Animation and is being executive-produced by Bruce W. Smith (The Princess and the Frog) and Ralph Farquhar (Moesha), both of which led the original The Proud Family original series. Jan Hirota (Big Hero 6 The Series) is producing and Eastwood Wong (Carmen Sandiego) is over art direction.
