Disney's self-titled streaming service is going to have quite the fair this coming month, but what we really wanna check out is what we can expect in December, at least what we know of right now. Disney might have something up their sleeves that they don't want anyone to know about. This next month we can expect some cool stuff ranging from series premieres to documentaries, and even new episodes of some hit shows... but what's in it for the animation-addled?
Frankly, not much in terms of animation is making its way to the service in December, based on What's On Disney Plus, which to some may feel like a huge bummer considering December is the perfect month to introduce people to new animated shows. Perhaps something is under Disney's sleeve, but as it stands right now there's only really two things to get hyped for if you're looking strictly at animation.
Disney is, of course, continuing the long-running What If series, which poses the question of "what if" within the Marvel universe. Episodes like posing questions of what if a different character became another hero or villain or questions like that. Typical hero fanfare. After ending its season late last year, of course, What If returns through the latter half of December starting on December 22 and running nearly daily until the month is up.
Beyond that, though, a new series is getting its debut -- Dream Productions. This Pixar-led series takes us in the mind of Reily between the events of Inside Out and Inside Out 2. As the name suggests, it'll focus on when we sleep and how dreams are made, as well how much they actually cost. We won't solely focus on the Core Emotions, but rather see new beings take center stage, those being Paula Persimmon, who's voiced by comedian Paula Pell, and Xeni, voiced by Krapopolis and Monsters at Work actor Richard Ayoade.
The former, who we met already in the first film, keeps dreams working right while the latter is a daydream director looking to make it big in the dreamspace, all the while remaining rather smug in the process. But, regardless of their differences, they both have the same endgoal of making the next "big tween-dream."
Dream Productions retains Pete Doctor as its executive producer alongside series creator Mike Jones, award-winning composer, Nami Melumad, was tapped to make the music for the series. All four episodes are planned to release on Decmber 11.
