In a very competitive Outstanding Animated Program category at this year's  Creative Arts Emmys, Rick and Morty secured the win over BoJack Horseman, The Simpsons, Big Mouth, and Bob's Burgers. The win comes as a bit of surprise as BoJack Horseman recently concluded, meaning the well-regarding Netflix comedy will close a six season run without an Emmy win.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was held virtually, with Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon accepting the win from Wanda Sykes in a pre-taped speech.  You can watch Harmon's acceptance speech below.

This year, Rick and Morty won the Emmy for the "The Vat of Acid Episode". In 2018, the series won its first Emmy for the "Pickle Rick" episode. Last year, The Simpsons took home the award in a year where Rick and Morty's fourth season was delayed and it missed the cutoff deadline to be nominated.

The win makes Rick and Morty 2-for-2, having won every year that it's been nominated, an impressive batting average when you look at The Simpson's 11 wins from 29 nominations, South Park's 5 wins from 17 nominations, and Bob's Burger's 2 wins across 9 nominations. Barring a surprise scenario where Rick and Morty is not nominated next year, it will interesting to see if the show can make it 3-for-3.
