X-Men: The Animated Series premiered way back in 1992 and ran for a total of 76 episodes. The show was an instant hit with comic book fans and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that resonates to this day.
Marvel Studios revisiting this animated property in the upcoming Disney+ revival X-Men '97 is news which has been welcomed by fans. Most of the original cast is back to pick up where the original series left off, while a second season is already in development.
Of course, we'd like to actually see the first batch of episodes before getting too excited about that. Unfortunately, there's still no word on a premiere date, and it's looking increasingly unlikely we'll see X-Men '97 this side of the New Year.
In the meantime, merchandise for the show continues finding its way into stores, including a very cool new poster.
Taking centre stage on that are Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, Jean Grey, Beast, Professor X, and Magneto. The latter is decked out in a new costume, with the villain undergoing a major status quo shift in X-Men '97 when he joins the ranks of the X-Men.
With any luck, Marvel Studios will announce its plans for this series sooner rather than later as fans are understandably impatient for news.
The X-Men will eventually be rebooted for live-action, and X-Men '97 seems like a great way to familiarise many fans with the team before they join the MCU. After all, Fox's movies are quickly becoming a distant memory and, outside of a few exceptions, are best off forgotten.
