There was a time when it looked like X-Men '97 would hit Disney+ this year, but it's become apparent in recent months that won't happen. We're not entirely sure why that is and with Marvel Studios skipping this weekend's Comic-Con...well, don't expect an update any time soon!
However, with merchandise trickling into stores, we're getting at least some news about the X-Men: The Animated Series follow-up...and a reliable social media scooper has now weighed in.
Much has been said about Professor X being missing when X-Men '97 begins, hence why Magneto puts his evildoing ways behind him and agrees to help lead the mutant team. Apparently, Charles Xavier has recovered from the injuries which led to him being taken into outer space by the Shi'ar Empire.
Romantically involved with Empress Lilandra in the sequel series, it sounds like the Professor will don some Shi'ar armour, potentially meaning he'll be seeing quite a bit more action here than when we last saw him.
A lot of love has gone into doing these characters justice in the revival, and Head Writer Beau DeMayo previously revealed what he looked for in the show's creative team.
"My general rule was you had to be a fan. No questions," he revealed. "I've been on [a] show, namely '[The] Witcher,' where some of the writers were not or actively disliked the books and games even actively mocking the source material."
"It's a recipe for disaster and bad morale. Fandom as a litmus test checks egos and makes all the long nights worth it." DeMayo would go on to add that, "you have to respect the work before you're allowed to add to its legacy."
Stay tuned for more on X-Men '97 as we have it.
