X-Men: The Animated Series arrived on our screens way back in 1992 and ran for a total of 76 episodes. The show was a hit and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that still resonates with comic book fans today.
We're not exactly shocked that Marvel Studios is revisiting this animated reality in the upcoming Disney+ series X-Men '97, with the majority of the original cast back to pick up where the classic series left off. Now, we have details on some of the heroes and villains set to join them.
The Rumor
Marvel Studios' Echo is less than a week away from premiering, and many fans are already eager to learn when their first X-Men TV show will hit the streamer.
Scooper @CanWeGetToast reveals that Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, and Moira MacTaggert are among the characters we'll spend time with in the second half of X-Men '97's first season. We'll also see Genosha attempt to join the United Nations in the fifth instalment, "Remember It," with the heroic Magneto leading the charge.
There's also a minor What If...? season 3 update. According to the scooper, both Captain Carter and Kahhori will be key figures in that next batch of episodes as part of a new team of (presumably Multiversal) heroes.
Recently, a full list of episode titles for the 10-episode first season was revealed:
To Me, My X-Men
Mutant Liberation Begins
Fire Made Flesh
Motendo
Remember It
Bright Eyes
Shine With Strength Reborn
Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1
Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2
Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3
Several cast members have already confirmed they're working on more episodes of X-Men '97, including Rogue actress Lenore Zann. Last August, we asked her about stepping back into the recording booth to play the fan-favourite hero again.
"It's fantastic to get this opportunity to re-inhabit the character of Rogue who is my favorite character I’ve played to date," she said, careful not to give too much away. "I’m grateful to the fans for their loyalty and support for our original series - and for my performance - which has made this possible."
"And I’m also grateful to Beau DeMayo and Charley Feldman from X-Men '97 for insisting I come back as Rogue."
As for what we can expect from the powerful mutant in this revival, Zann teases: "As usual, Rogue will go through a lot in X-Men '97. Like me, she’s a passionate woman who can’t help wearing her heart on her sleeve. So, buckle up for a wild ride!"
X-Men '97 is currently scheduled to premiere on Disney+ later this year.
