When one thinks of Helluva Boss, it’s understandable if your first instinct isn’t the horny owl that tries to get into the lead imp’s pants that is Stolas. On the off-chance you do, however, think that way, one of the things you may or may not question is the design choice itself. It’s easy to toss the character design aside, but there is actually a reason behind the owl we know today.
It isn’t some coincidence that Blitzo is involved with an owl demon who just so happens to be a Goetic demon. All that is intentional and fascinating. Everyone’s favorite owl is actually based on a real demon.
This real demon who shares the name is actually touted as a fallen angel and the Great Prince of Hell and is often depicted as an owl donning a crown atop his head. Stolas does command the 26 Legion of Demons. He can also be depicted as a raven before taking the form of a human.
On top of that, he teaches astronomy, history, herbs, and precious stones. While we certainly haven’t learned any sort of associated thing from Stolas in Helluva Boss, it does fitting his first song featured in Loo Loo Land was heavily reliant on astronomy.
Here is his entry in the Goetia: The Lesser Key of Solomon the King.
"The Thirty-sixth Spirit is Stolas, or Stolos. He is a Great and Powerful Prince, appearing in the Shape of a Mighty Raven at first before the Exorcist; but after he taketh the image of a Man. He teacheth the Art of Astronomy, and the Virtues of Herbs and Precious Stones. He governeth 26 Legions of Spirits; and his Seal is this, which is, etc."
In other news, though, the wait may almost be over for Helluva Boss fans as the team has updated fans earlier this month detailing that not only is going to release when it's ready, but also that Season 2 will have longer episodes.
