Following the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn will bid farewell to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in order to take charge of DC Studios and the DCU.
His next project is Superman: Legacy, and while there's always a chance the filmmaker will evetually return to the MCU, he's already made it clear that Vol. 4 won't happen with him at the helm. We're sure the franchise will continue in some form, and it sounds like that's going to be the case for Disney+'s CG-animated I Am Groot shorts as well.
Gunn was never heavily involved in those, revealing last August that he believes they're standalone in nature and not necessarily canon to the MCU.
That might have been wishful thinking on the director's part, but the misadventures of Baby Groot still did little to contradict the stories he's told. Now, though, Gunn has taken to Twitter to tell his followers that, "I think you're getting more [I Am Groot]."
Unfortunately (and unsurprisingly), he'd then add, "I'm not involved."
We previously heard that the episodes which premiered last year were only half of those produced, so this news isn't overly surprising in a lot of ways. With any luck, we'll get some official news from Marvel Studios soon, as Baby Groot remains one of the MCU's most adorable characters (surely the streamer can eventually give us a team-up with Grogu?).
"There’s no guarding the galaxy from this mischievous toddler," reads the official synopsis. "So get ready as Baby Groot takes center stage in his very own series, exploring his glory days growing up - and getting into trouble - among the stars."
