During Nickelodeon's special slime-filled broadcast of Sunday's NFL Wild Card game between the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints, fans were treated to a sneak peek at the all-new CG-animated series Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years.
The series serves as a prequel to the hit Nickelodeon cartoon and follows 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals as they spend the summer at Kamp Koral. The nearly six-minute sneak peek is from the premiere episode, "The Jellyfish Kid," and sees a young SpongeBob try to catch his first jellyfish. While seeing SpongeBob and his friends recreated in CG may take a bit of getting used to at first, all of the same wacky humor and crazy antics are still present.
In the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff, the CG-animated prequel follows 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals as they spend their summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral.
Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years is produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio. The series will premiere on Paramount+, ViacomCBS' upcoming subscription on-demand service, in 2021. The series will air on Nickelodeon later in the year, following the first season's run on Paramount+.
Many of the cartoon's original voice actors are returning to reprise their roles, including Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton). The series will also introduce new characters Nobby and Narlene, narwhal siblings who live in the woods surrounding the camp, who will be voiced by Carlos Alazraqui (The Casagrandes) and Kate Higgins (Blaze and the Monster Machines), respectively.
