Netflix's Arcane was released on November 21, 2021 with a 9-episode first season that saw the Fortiche animated video game adaptation debut to worldwide acclaim that propelled the show onward to winning the Outstanding Animated Program at the 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The Netflix show won out over the likes of Bob's Burger, Rick and Morty, The Simpsons, and Marvel's What If...?
Given the fan response, the critical acclaim (the show boasts a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score) and the show's numerous accolades, fans of Arcane assumed that the show's second season would be coming sooner rather than later.
When the show debuted in 2021 Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent took to Twitter to confirm that season 2 was already in the works and that it would be produced a lot faster than the 6 years it took to produce and release season 1.
However, at the Video V Vision Conference hosted by Tencent (Riot Games' parent company), it was revealed that Arcane season 2 would not be released until Q4 2024. Online fans are speculating that the show's second season is likely to drop in November 2024 to coincide with League of Legends' 15th anniversary.
So while Laurent is correct that it won't take 6 years for season 2 to be released, 3 years is still a long time and Arcane and League of Legends fans are worried that the show may lose all of its momentum after such a lengthy wait.
Do you think 3 years is too long of a wait for season 2? Or do you think the show's fanbase is large enough to weather such a lengthy wait? Let us know in the comment section below.
All nine episodes of Arcane Season 1 are currently available to stream on Netflix.
