Disney has reportedly found its leading lady for the upcoming remake of
Lady and the Tramp.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson, who played the badass Valkyrie, will now voice the upscale Cocker Spaniel, Lady, in the live-action CG hybrid remake of the Disney animated classic. Thompson
will star opposite Justin Theroux, who will voice the lead male stray dog known as Tramp. She rounds out an impressive cast that also includes
Sherlock Gnomes star Ashley Jensen - who will voice of Jackie, the re-imagined version of Lady's loyal Scottish Terrier companion known as Jock in the original movie. Additionally,
Kiersey Clemons will play Darling, Lady's human owner and wife to Jim Dear.
For those unfamiliar,
Lady and the Tramp follows Lady, a pampered Cocker Spaniel who finds herself loose out on the street where she meets the stray mutt Tramp. Together, they embark on an adventure during which their friendship blossoms into a romance. The remake is being helmed by
The LEGO Ninjago Movie director Charlie Bean with a script from Andrew Bujalski. It's assumed it will follow the general plot of the original animated movie, though it's clear certain minor aspects are being tweaked for this remake.
Lady and the Tramp will debut on Disney's digital streaming service which is expected to launch in 2019. Fans can currently catch Thompson in theaters now in Boots Riley's
Sorry to Bother You. She'll also appear opposite her
Thor: Ragnarok co-star Chris Hemsworth in Sony's upcoming
Men in Black spinoff.
