Sherlock Gnomes star Ashley Jensen has officially been cast in Disney's upcoming live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp.
Deadline recently reported that Jensen has been cast as a Scottish Terrier Jackie - Lady's loyal companion. Fans of the original 1955 film will have recognised that breed and kinship as that of, fan-favourite pup, Jock. It turns out that Jock will be reinvented for the modern remake as a female named Jackie.
The original animated film, which released in 1955, followed a pampered cocker spaniel named Lady whose comfortable life slips away once her owners have a baby. When, after some tense circumstances, Lady finds herself on the loose and out on the street, she is befriended and protected by the tough stray mutt named Tramp. A romance begins to blossom between the two dogs, but their many differences, along with more drama at Lady's household, threaten to keep them apart.
The Lego Ninjago Movie's Charlie Bean will be directing the live-action/CGI-hybrid, while the script is helmed by Andrew Bujalski. The Lady and the Tramp remake is expected to debut exclusively on Disney's upcoming streaming service along with a remake of Sword in the Stone - as well as many other titles.
