The former Senior Vice President of the Power Rangers franchise recently discussed what Hasbro are working on in terms of theatrical releases. Brian Casentini served as an executive producer on many subseries within the franchise as well as the 2017 live-action film.
Just yesterday came
reports that the planned sequel to the 2017
Power Rangers film had been cancelled and that Hasbro are planning a reboot with a new cast. This information came straight from the star of the afformentioned film, Dacre Montgomery, who recently participated in a Reddit AMA in promotion of Netflix's
Stranger Things.
Casentini's recent statement (via
AnimeMojo) appears to confirm what Montgomery revealed on Reddit. He stated that theatrical releases are a part of Hasbro's plans for the franchise, as they've always been.
"Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner has stated theatrical films are a key part of Hasbro’s strategy for the Power Rangers franchise and that has not changed."
The former Senior Vice President could go into specifics but did tease that fans ought to be excited for what's coming.
"All I can say at this time is that fans should look forward to future announcements."
He further spoke about the 2017 film, citing it as one of the most rewarding projects he worked on whilst a part of the franchise - despite it not being the most fruitful critically or financially.
"In terms of the most rewarding experience, I would have to say it was producing the 2017 film and expanding the diversity that our franchise has always celebrated to include the first autistic and LGBTQ superheroes ever to grace the silver screen."
