Warner Bros. Pictures'
The LEGO Movie will be making its broadcast television debut in two weeks. The Walt Disney Company announced the hit CG-animated film will debut on ABC on Thursday, September 5.
Written and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller,
The LEGO Movie was both a critical and commercial success when it released in 2014, grossing $469 million worldwide. It received praise for its visual sytle, voice acting, and heartwarming message. The film followed ordinary LEGO construction worker Emmet Brickowski (Chris Pratt) who is mistakenly identified as a "The Special" Master Builder and believed to be the key to saving the world from the evil tyrant, Lord Business. Emmet embarkson an incredible adventure alongside some pretty awesome characters, including Batman (Will Arnett) and Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks).
The LEGO Movie won the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film, the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Animated Feature and the Saturn Award for Best Animated Film, and was nominated for a GRAMMY®, Kids’ Choice and People’s Choice Awards.
The LEGO Movie also has since been expanded into a major film franchise with its sequel,
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, releasing in theaters this year. There have also been spinoff films, like 2017's
The LEGO Batman Movie and
The LEGO Ninjago Movie.
The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
The LEGO Movie will debut on ABC at 8:00 p.m. EDT on September 5.
