With less than half a year left to plan his Christmas heist, Benedict Cumberbatch's
The Grinch is back in a new trailer showcasing Illumination Entertainment's animated take on the classic Dr. Seuss story. As we've seen in previous trailers, the character's grumpiness is on full display as he has dealt with the misery of Christmas for 53 years.
Now, with the mayor of Whoville looking to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch has hatched a plan to steal Christmas. It's a bold strategy that we've seen play out in countless adaptations, so how will Illumination Entertainment's animated movie differ? It seems - at least judging by the trailers - that the movie will adopt the studio's
Minions-style of humor and focus more on comical aspects of the green grouch. The trailer further highlights The Grinch's fondness for causing mischief and spreading misery in everyday life with the help of his cheery sidekick and pet dog, Max; but he does so in a way that's wacky and hilarious.

The Grinch below. It features a mix of some previously seen footage along with a few new scenes that spotlight some of the movie's silliness.
For their eighth fully animated feature, Illumination and Universal Pictures present The Grinch, based on Dr. Seuss’ beloved holiday classic. The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it’s a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism.
The Grinch will attempt to steal Christmas early this year when the movie hits theaters November 9. It will be going up against a Disney powerhouse in Ralph Breaks the Internet, which opens two weeks later on November 21.
