After the massive critical and financial success that was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Sony are working on both a sequel and a spinoff. The former will presumably still follow Miles Morales and a gang of interdimensional webslingers, while the latter will focus of Spider-Woman A.K.A. Gwen Stacy.

Recently, official social media accounts of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse began to hint that a big announcement to do with the popular animated movie was imminent. As it turns out, Sony Pictures Animation has officially announced that the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will arrive in theatres on April 8th, 2022.

That's almost four years after the debut of the first instalment. While that amount of production time would be understandable given the meticulous animation style of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, perhaps the aforementioned Spider-Woman spinoff will arrive within the interval.
