Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will soon hit North American theaters on June 2, 2023 and Sony Pictures Animation is beginning to ramp up its promotion for the highly-anticipated sequel. The film certainly has a lot to live up to following Into the Spider-Verse's surprising critical and box-office success back in 2018. Screenwriters Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and David Callaham are hoping that the sequel's introduction of hundreds of alternate Peter Parkers will once again, woo audiences and critics alike.
Speaking to IGN, actor Daniel Kaluuya (Black Panther) touched on a number of topics in Across the Spider-Verse, chief among them, the central theme of the ambitious sequel. As revealed in previous trailers, Shameik Moore's Miles Morales and Oscar Isaac's Miguel O'Hara are waging war over whether it's acceptable to sacrifice one life to save the lives of many.
"I think it's the throughline and what makes [Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and David Callaham] great writers is that everything speaks to that central theme and everyone has a version of it," said Kaluuya. "Spider-Punk has a quite a few scenes where he interfaces with that dilemma, with Miles. I think it's something that is not littered but is in the majority of the film."
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will hit North American theaters on June 2, 2023. It will compete against Fast X, (May 19), The Little Mermaid (May 26), Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (June 9), and The Flash (June 16) at the box office.
