Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ends on a massive cliffhanger, and it's looking like next March's Beyond the Spider-Verse will pit two teams of wall-crawling heroes against each other.
One will be led by Spider-Gwen (and presumably Miles Morales if he can escape Prowler), while Spider-Man 2099 is likely going to take charge of the other in an effort to protect "canon." However, with his father's life on the line, we're sure Earth-1610's Spider-Man will do whatever it takes to win.
However, what we didn't necessarily expect was for Beyond the Spider-Verse to be the end of Miles' story.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight, and the former confirmed that once this trilogy concludes, they're moving on from the franchise.
"It is the end of Miles Morales’ trilogy and so this whole thing is like working towards that but this obviously has its own complete film with a beginning, middle, and end and Miles starts in one place and ends in another and all the characters have their arc in this film but that’s it for us. We’re so tired."
In many respects, we're not shocked that this is where the animated Miles' story ends as it makes sense to send him out on a high. Plus, there are all those rumours about the character making his live-action debut in the MCU, meaning Sony probably won't want two versions of the same character on screen at the same time!
Animated Spider-Verse spin-offs are planned, of course, including one revolving around Spider-Gwen and other female Spider-Heroes.
As incredible as this trilogy has been so far, it would be a mistake to milk it too much and Miles' swinging into a live-action space feels like the logical next step for a character now moviegoers have become familiarised with the teenager.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters on March 29, 2024.
