SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY Plot Synopsis Is Wildly Different From The Original Film

Space Jam: A New Legacy will still revolve around a game of basketball featuring the NBA's greatest superstar, but that's about where the similarities to the original film end according to the leaked plot.

Despite the hype surrounding Space Jam: A New Legacy, no one really knows what to expect from the upcoming film starring NBA superstar LeBron James. Well, this weekend, the plot synopsis for the movie popped up online and it seems that fans are in for a wild ride.

The synopsis was shared on Twitter by Final Space writer Ben Mekler who described it as "certifiably bananas" and after reading it over, it definitely sounds like a loony adventure. It also sounds like it'll be quite the departure from the 1996 original that featured then-NBA star Michael Jordan.

"During a trip to the Warner Bros. studio, NBA Superstar LeBron James and his son accidently get trapped within a world that contains all of Warner Bros.' stories and characters, under the control of a malfunctioning, all-powerful force named Al G (played by Don Cheadle). With the help of Bugs Bunny, LeBron must navigate through a never-before-imagined world filled with iconic movie scenes and characters as they re-assemble the Looney Tunes to rescue his lost son. Now to get back home, Lebron and the Tunes have to unravel Al G's mysterious plan and win an epic basketball game against digital gamified super-versions of the NBA and WNBA's biggest stars as the entire world watches."

It had previously been reported that Space Jam: A New Legacy would be more of a reboot than a sequel to the original and this leaked synopsis seems to suggest that is the case.  Although it still centers around an epic game of basketball, the details differ drastically.

For starters, there's no mention of intergalactic aliens. Instead, there's an "all-powerful force" named Al G with a "mysterious plan." It's unclear exactly what that plan is, but it entails "digital gamified super-versions" of NBA and WNBA stars. In the original, the Nerdlucks stole the talents of the NBA players but here it appears they'll be digital versions. So while the premise is similar, it's also quite different.

James also won't be playing to save the Looney Tunes from becoming amusement park attractions either. Instead, he will be playing alongside Bugs Bunny and the rest of the animated characters to help rescue his son, who gets sucked into this alternate world with him.

It all sounds very whacky but what do you expect from the Looney Tunes? Space Jam: A New Legacy is set to hit the court on July 16, 2021. Hopefully, we get a teaser or trailer soon.
