Last month a rumour began making waves that supposed that Spider-Man: Homecoming actress Zendaya had been offered the titular role of Ariel in Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
During the premiere of her new animated film Smallfoot, Variety asked the actress whether she'd be open to playing the role. Zendaya told them that, while the rumour is just that, she's absolutely be up for the role - stating: "I mean, yeah, why wouldn't I?"
The film, which is yet to set a release date, will be directed by Rob Marshall - who will be debuting another fantasy/musical in December of this year (Mary Poppins Returns). The Little Mermaid will feature songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, songwriter for Moana and Mary Poppins Returns, as well as Alan Menken, songwriter for too many Disney classics too mention (including the original The Little Mermaid).
The Little Mermaid is one of many upcoming live-action adaptations of Disney classics, others include: Lady and the Tramp, Mulan, Aladdin, The Sword In The Stone, Dumbo, and no doubt many more.
What do you think of Zendaya in the role of Ariel? Which of Disney's live-action remakes are you looking forward to the most?
Disney's The Little Mermaid doesn't currently have a set release date.
