Phil Lord & Chris Miller Address The Demand For Even More SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Spinoffs
The directors of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse address the demand for spinoffs focusing on Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham. Check out what they had to say...
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is one of Sony's greatest successes of recent memory - and they aim to capitalise on it. A sequel to the Academy Award-winner is in the pipeline as well as a spinoff following Hailee Steinfeld's Spider-Woman as well as Oscar Isaac's Spider-Man 2099. Despite this, fans of the animated masterpiece want more.
Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, Peni Parker, and the latter's "Sp//dr" mech are the trio of multiversal web-slingers who were sidelined in Into The Spider-Verse - Miles, Gwen, and Peter hogging most of the limelight. Those three unique characters are at the helm of this demand, many fans believing that they should have a spinoff movie all to themselves.
The directors of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse recently featured in a report by Discussing Film in which they address this demand for even more spinoffs. Firstly, Phil Lord said as such: "Look, we wanted to make a movie that felt like it was the tip of the iceberg. You could imagine all of these other things. So it's music to our ears that people could imagine a Spider-Noir film, and the Spider-Ham insane cartoon."
Chris Miller concurred with his co-director, following up his statement with the following: "Right. We still have the horse. We've got to put the cart behind it. So we'll let it ride down the road a few blocks before we get too big for our britches." Thankfully, it sounds as if they're not outright shutting down the possibility and may well be considering it.
