Paramount Animation's
Wonder Park debuted last week to a lackluster $20.3 M worldwide ($16M domestically) in its first weekend of release. In its second weekend of release, the film accumulated another $9M domestically, raising it's North American total to $29.5M domestically.
Analysts are predicting the film to finish at $50M in North America, far short of its estimated $100 million production budget. That figure doesn't include marketing spending and with Paramount routinely
topping the list of studio TV advertising. in the weeks prior to the film's release, the studio's all-in number could be nearly 1.5x that amount.
Despite spending millions each week on advertising, it doesn't appear that
Wonder Park will be receiving any sort of sequel. The film wasn't helped by critics, who gave the film a 30% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Other animated pics appearing in the Top 10 domestic box office earners this weekend includes Dreamworks'
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World at #5 ($6.5M/$145.7M WW) and WB Animation's
LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part at #9 ($1.1M/$103.3M WW).
