The live-action Monster Hunter adaptation featuring Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Resident Evil), Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy), Tony Jaa (Ong Bak, The Protector), and T.I. (Ant-Man, Ant-Man & The Wasp) received a mixed reception after its release last year.
While casual viewers seemed enamored by the action and narrative that the film provided, many lovers of the video game were a bit disappointed with some of the liberties the adaptation took. Needless to say, many fans were left wanting something more concrete and closer to the source material.
Enter Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild headed to Netflix in less than a month. This outing is an animated feature and follows a character from the game named Aiden, so hopefully, it will land better with the fanbase.
Check out the promo image along with the official synopsis below.
"A young man named Aiden, who calls himself a hunter, protects his isolated village. One day, he learns that his village is threatened by an Elder Dragon, a monster cloaked in mystery. Needing to find a way to save his village, Aiden leaves his home and sets off on a journey into the unknown alongside Julius, a first-rate hunter and member of the Hunter's Guild, and his companions...
Thus begins an original story that shines the spotlight on characters in the world of Monster Hunter who have remained in the background until now."
For lovers of animation, this seems like a much better bet than the live-action film and seems to focus much more on the source material, which is likely to get a much better reception amongst gamers who were left feeling lackluster from the last one.
The trailer is below so you can get a taste of the 3D animation style and get more context about the new project.
