Mark your calenders, everyone, Monster Hunter, the famed Capcom-developed video game franchise is launching another film next month. Instead of being a live-action adaptation, which stirred up some unintentional controversy thanks to a spicy joke, Capcom is partnering up with Netflix to bring the franchise into the CG space in Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild.
The new 3D film places a spotlight on Aiden, a budding hunter who finds himself in the middle of a tough realization that the rocky balance between humans and monsters is about to grow 10 times worse as his community is in the path of an Elder Dragon on a rampage.
Instead of hiding, he crosses paths with fellow hunter, Julius, and seeks to find a way to put a stop to the Elder Dragon’s rampage by whatever means necessary before he can run rampant through his home. This includes enlisting other hunters and acquiring better weapons more suited for taking on a monster of its class.
A little tidbit of information, the protagonist, Aiden, is far from a new inclusion to the franchise. Fans of the games have seen him in Monster Hunter 4 as the Ace Cadet and Monster Hunter: World as the Excitable A-Lister. This film, while likely not canonical to the Monster Hunter game lore, can be seen as a light history behind the character and the actions he took to become a full-fledged hunter.
Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild launches on Netflix on August 12.
