Kevin Feige, the producer of
Spider-Man: Far From Home as well as the head of Marvel Studios in general, recently did an interview with BET (via
Comicbook.com) in which he discussed how the upcoming, live-action sequel compares to
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Similarly, the director of
Spider-Man: Far From Home, Jon Watts recently talked about the Academy Award-winning animated movie with
Business Insider. Watts explained that he was somewhat jealous of
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The director had planted the seeds to introduce Miles Morales (the protagonist of Into the Spider-Verse) back in 2017's
Spider-Man: Homecoming - with Donald Glover appearing as Miles' uncle Aaron Davis.
“I was jealous, I wanted to do the Miles story, too. But it’s one of those situations that they did it so beautifully that you can’t be mad. You just have to sit back and enjoy it.” Watts admitted before being asked whether, following Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Miles might one day make his way into live-action: “I think so,” Watts said.
Feige, the afformentioned head honcho of Marvel Studios, said that he wasn't made nervous by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. “I loved Spider-Verse and thought it was great. I wasn’t nervous, but I was thankful that we went with Mysterio when we were deciding what villain to use."
He admitted that he was relieved that they had chosen to do something particularly interesting with Spider-Man: Far From Home rather than something more generic - as that would have meant that the film would have paled in comparion to Spider-Verse.
“We wanted to do a villain that hadn’t been seen before. And Mysterio was high on the list. There were some questions about his powers and is it too confusing and the illusions and things like that. [But] we were like, no, that’s what would be fun. I saw Spider-Verse and said thank God we went with something daring and complex. If it had just been an average Spider-Man villain chasing him around buildings and trying to hit him with a blast, it would have seemed really lame next to Spider-Verse.”
In similar news; the star of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Tom Holland, recently revealed that he was set to make a cameo appearance in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, the cameo evidently didn't make the final cut. You can find out more on that by clicking here.
