Within the 25 years that filmmaker Lee Unkrich spent with the studio he co-directed such classic films as: Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo. Later on at Pixar, Unkrich helmed such films as Toy Story 3 and Coco.
Though the incredible conclusion that was Toy Story 3 is about to be undone by its upcoming sequel, we can still appreciate it for the emotional animated film that it was. Therefore, we should thank Lee Unkrich for his work directing it - as well as Pixar's 2017 instalment Coco. The latter was a resounding success and was a great example of Mexican representation in media.
Unkrich truly made a name for himself with his work at Pixar, but that time in his life is coming to an end. The talented filmmaker recently took to Twitter (@leeunkrich) to officially announce that he will be departing the studio, not out of ill-will or to join the ranks of another, but to spend time with his family and pursue ulterior interests.
Here's what Unkrich had to tell The Hollywood Reporter on the matter: “I’m not leaving to make films at another studio; instead, I look forward to spending much-needed time with my family and pursuing interests that have long been back-burnered."
Toy Story 4 arrives in theatres on June 21st, 2019.
