Back in July, the Incredibles 2 director Brad Bird spoke out on Twitter about his strong belief that his Pixar animated films, as well as animation in general, shouldn’t be solely classified under the category of "children’s films." The discussion was sparked when a fellow tweeter shamed the director for using cuss words in Incredibles 2, a film they considered to be a “kid’s movie."
Earlier today, another Twitter user reached out to the director to inform him that the platform iTunes currently lists Incredibles 2 under the category of “Kids & Family.” Bird promptly responded to the tweet claiming that Incredibles 2 actually belongs in the category of “adventure” films. His full response can be seen below:
"Thanks for bringing this to my attention, . Our classification should be no different than adventure films from Marvel or Lucasfilm just because we’re animated. What would you call sexism or racism for an art form? Medium-ism?"

In response to Brad Bird’s comments, even Guillermo del Toro, the director and co-writer of the Academy award-winning film The Shape of Water, contributed to the conversation. Here's what the director had to say on the topic:
“Animation is a medium, not a genre-- nor an interest for kids & families only.”
