Brad Bird, the director of both The Incredibles as well as the recently released Incredibles 2, doesn't believe that his movies are "kids movies."
Bird is behind such animated films as The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille - all of which are renowned and beloved. Incredibles 2, his most recent film which arrived in theatres on June 13th, has a PG (Parental Guidance) rating from the MPAA - similar to his other films.
While its action sequences are one of the main reasons for its rating, another reason has been causing quite a stir amongst audiences - many people believing that the movie shouldn't include such vugar language (despite not literally saying such words). The reason why being that the film is animated, which many seem to believe means that it's exclusively a "kids movie." Bird disagrees - as he made clear in a recent Twitter thread.
Here's what Bird had to say:
The writer-director's arguments suppose that it being an animated family-movie, which is safe for children to watch, doesn't classify it as being explicitly for children. Hence why such references exist - of which adults can understand and enjoy. Though the director's comments aren't particularly unique, as many people agree with him, it is surprising how many people still persist in the belief.
What do you think? Does a movie being animated automatically label it as a "kids movie"?
