Last month saw the announcement of the ten animated short films which have been nominated for the "Best Animated Short" category of the forthcoming 91st Academy Awards. Following the online release of Bao - Pixar's entry; DreamWorks Animation has released their two on YouTube.

Bird Karma is directed by William Salazar, produced by Jeff Hermann, and screened during the 2018 Annecy International Animation Festival along with, the second short film, Bilby. The latter was directed by Pierre Perifel, JP Sans, Liron Topaz, and produced by Kelly Cooney.


Bilby follows a marsupial whom must deal with the trials of "parenthood" after rescuing an adorable chick from the clutches of predators - thus becoming its protector. Bird Karma tells the story of a long-legged bird who becomes fascinated by a shimmering goldfish. He captures and eats said fish, only then to realise the karmic consequences.
