Though he is quite the prolific actor, you might have found it bizarre hearing the voice of Ryan Reynolds coming out of the titular Pokémon in the live-action
Detective Pikachu movie. The actor typically appears in comedies of the adult variety, most garnering an R-rating, like
Deadpool and
The Hitman's Bodyguard.
In a recent interview (via
Gamefragger), Reynolds revealed exactly why he wanted to be involved with the Pokémon film. It turns out that
Detective Pikachu being so different to his usual work is what motivated him to try out for the role.
Not so much because he wanted to venture beyond his territory for the sake of being adventurous but rather because he wanted to feature in something other than an R-rated flick. He's currently got two children with Blake Lively (and is expecting a third). Reynolds wanted to play Detective Pikachu so that his kids could watch one of his films.
"I was excited to do a film that my kids would love. I don't do a lot of films that are not rated-R. For me, that's a big one," Reynolds explained.
