The recent horror take on Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey, seems to have started something of a trend of much darker adaptation of children's classics, and we can now add Cinderella to the list.
According to Bloody Disgusting, ChampDog Films is developing Cinderella’s Curse, which is currently set for release in October 2023.
The movie is will be produced and directed by Louisa Warren, from a script by Harry Boxley (Mary Had A Little Lamb). The cast includes Kelly Rian Sanson, Chrissie Wunna and Danielle Scott.
“This an incredibly unique spin on the Cinderella we all love and know," Warren tells the site. "There are going to be some truly horrific deaths by her hands. I think the gore hounds are in for a treat in my dark retelling.”
Details are few and far between on this one, but it sounds like Cinderella is going to take a more active role in doling out justice to her Wicked Step Mother and the "ugly" sisters!
We have seen slightly darker takes on this tale over the years, and a previous horror-inspired version was released in India in 2021 to mixed reviews (see the trailer below).
