About Minions: The Rise of Gru
From the creators of the most successful global animated franchise in the history comes Minions: The Rise of Gru, the origin story of how the world's greatest supervillain first met his iconic Minions, forged cinema's most despicable crew, and faced off against the most unstoppable criminal force ever assembled.
Long before Gru (Steve Carell, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role) becomes the master of evil, he is just a young boy living in a 1970s suburban neighborhood and plotting to take over the world from his basement. It's not going all that well at the moment. This unplanned family comes together after Gru has a chance encounter with the Minions, who consist of Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto, the latter of whom is a new Minion who wears braces and has an intense desire to please. They collaborate on the construction of their first hideout, the development of their first weapons, and the execution of their first missions.
When the notorious supervillain supergroup known as the Vicious 6 get rid of their leader, the legendary martial arts fighter Wild Knuckles (Academy Award winner Alan Arkin), Gru, the group's most devoted fanboy, applies to join them as their newest member. The Vicious 6 are not impressed by the short, want tobe villain, but then Gru outsmarts them and infuriates them, and all of a sudden he finds himself to be the mortal enemy of the most evil person in the world. While Gru is on the run, the Minions endeavor to become skilled in the art of kung fu in order to assist in saving him. Gru, meanwhile, learns that even the most evil of people require assistance from their companions at times.
