Bumblebee managed to pass the $400 million mark at the worldwide box office yesterday and it has so far earned $113.9 million in North America and $287.4 million overseas. That may not be up there with what some of the earlier instalments made but it's still a great number, especially as the Transformers spinoff faced stiff competition back in December.

It should continue earning money too as Bumblebee still hasn't opened in Japan. In China, it's grossed over $130 million and that's something which has surely grabbed the studio's attention.

Regardless, Deadline is reporting that a sequel is indeed in development and will more than likely revolve around Bumblebee teaming up with Optimus Prime (which was teased at the end of the first instalment when they could be seen driving off into the sunset together to start a new adventure).

"We had many objectives (including) to bring a new set of families into the series, and that succeeded; in the after markets that will continue to succeed in a big way," explains longtime franchise producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura.

"Part of our obligation was to bring people back who had left the franchise or never experienced it which worked well… We are finding our way. Our intention was we wanted to please the core fans but also bring a new audience."
