BUMBLEBEE Producer Says A Solo Optimus Prime Film Would Be Difficult; Draws Comparisons To Obi-Wan Kenobi
Following a string of poorly received movies, the Transformers franchise was reinvigorated by the release of Bumblebee, and now one of its producers opens up about the possibility of an Optimus Prime film.
While Bumblebee may have done what most live-action Transformers films failed to do (receive critical acclaim), it doesn't seem like Paramount is overly anxious to open the floodgates for more solo Transformers films - or at least an Optimus Prime film.
During a recent interview with Metro, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who has been a part of the franchise since it began in 2007, revealed that he thinks a solo Optimus Prime movie would be a difficult challenge.
"It will be hard with Optimus, he is always right, very stoic and is a man of few words … It is kind of like saying, ‘Lets do a movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi?’ But how much is there to say about Obi-Wan? It is not so easy."
Though it's rather refreshing to see that the studio isn't just going to release a stream of solo Transformers films in response to the positive buzz surrounding Bumblebee, the producer's comments are interesting, especially since he once expressed interest in such a film earlier this year.
Either way, following the release of Travis Knight's Bumblebee, which embraced the series' G1 roots to the delight of fans, it's hard to imagine that audiences wouldn't at least be open to the prospect of an Optimus Prime movie.
Bumblebee is currently in theaters and stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Angela Bassett and Justin Theroux.
