Perhaps the most iconic part of
Aladdin, both the original and live-action version, is the song known as: "A Whole New World." The song's lyrics were written by Tim Rice and its music was by Alan Menken.
In the original version, it was performed by Brad Kane and Lea Salonga. In the new, live-action version it's performed by Mena Masoud and Naomi Scott. Within the film itself, Aladdin and Jasmine perform the ballad. The song serves as Aladdin literally showing Jasmine, a princess who is usually confined to her palace, what the world has to offer - opening her eyes, if you will.
At the 65th Academy Awards, 'A Whole New World' won the Oscar for Best Original Song. It also won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year at the 36th Annual Grammy Awards. Naturally, on account of this acclaim, it was a moment of
Aladdin that the live-action version had to replicate and live up to. You can judge whether it managed that by checking out
the newly released clip below:
A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.” The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.
