X-MEN '97: Newly Announced 2023 Disney+ Show Picks Up Where X-MEN THE ANIMATED SERIES Left Off - Cast Returns

Disney+ day is finally here, and while fans were expecting a lot, it's safe to say that the House of Mouse delivered in the Marvel arena. An entire section focused on Marvel's Disney+ slate, starting with footage from the shows we've already seen in 2021 - WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If...?, and then came the good stuff.

Getting a deeper look into Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Secret Invasion, fans would have been satiated with that alone, but the fun didn't stop there. Next came a look at the road ahead, with fresh title cards for those five shows as well as Ironheart, Agatha: House of Harkness, Echo, and Loki Season 2 in the live-action arena.

Surprisingly, Marvel Studios teased several of the animated projects that have been rumored lately, with new title cards for the previously announced I Am Groot and What If...? Season 2. Most excitingly, however, were the announcements of Spider-Man: Freshman Year and X-Men '97, a continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series from the '90s under the Marvel Studio banner with returning cast members.

There were a couple of rumors that this could happen, but amongst everything else afloat on the internet these days, what are fans to believe? The official confirmation from the above tweet is sure to excite anyone who didn't see the announcement on Disney+ today, even going so far as to utilize one of the internet's favorite Wolverine memes.

The Wrap was the first to mention the returning cast members, with the voices of Jean Grey, Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Beast, Jubilee, Storm, and Mr. Sinister all coming back to continue their adventures where they left off. Possibly most interesting is that this will be under the Marvel Studios banner, so it remains to be seen if there will be any noticeable changes in the continuation of what is undoubtedly one of the most beloved animated series of all time.

What do you guys think? Are you excited to pick up where the show left off in the '90s, or would you prefer new mutant adventures instead of X-Men '97? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual spot!

X-Men '97 will land on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
