ENCANTO Hits Theaters This Week But When Will It Arrive On Disney+?

Walt Disney Animation Studios' animated musical hits theaters this week on November 24, but when will the movie arrive on the Disney+ streaming service? Hit the jump for more details!

The pandemic has upended the movie industry and completely changed the way people and studios approach new releases. Prior to the pandemic, we had to wait 6-8 months before a movie would go from theaters to Disney+, or the streaming service equivalent for the studio.

However, for the past year and a half or so, studios have given viewers the opportunity to choose between going to the theaters to see or new movie or watching it at home via a streaming service. For Disney, there had not been any set rules for how they determined which movies got a theatrical release or which would wind up directly going to Disney+. Even now, I'm not entirely certain how they make the decision.

While many enjoy the movie going experience and can't wait to get back to theaters, there are still many who'd rather stay home -- be it for safety or comfort -- and watch a movie from their couch. For Encanto, your only option upon release is to watch it in theaters. Walt Disney Animation Studios' newest musical comedy is set to release exclusively in theaters on November 24. Disney is clearly trying to take advantage of the lengthy holiday weekend to see if it can drum up some box office business.

Prior to the pandemic, it would take about 6-8 months for a new movie to arrive on Disney+. But the industry has changed tremendously since. The window has shortened drastically and for Disney's 2021 movie slate, theaters only have a 45-day exclusive window.

So when will Encanto arrive on Disney+? It's actually not that long! Disney has confirmed that Encanto will be available to watch on Disney+ starting on December 24, 2021. There will be no additional Premier Access cost attached to it so as long as you have a Disney+ subscription you can watch it.

Walt Disney Animation Studios' upcoming feature film “Encanto” tells the tale of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. Each child has been blessed with a magic gift unique to them—each child except Mirabel. But when the family’s home is threatened, Mirabel may be their only hope.

Do you plan on seeing Encanto in theaters or do you prefer Disney+? Let us know in the comments!
