Just last month, we got a new official trailer for Disney's Jungle Cruise. It's an upcoming, live-action film based on the iconic Disneyland theme park ride of the same name and stars both Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Jumanji: The Next Level) and Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns).
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows), the cast also includes Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, Édgar Ramírez, and Paul Giamatti. Prior to today, Disney's Jungle Cruise was set to arrive in theatres on July 24th, 2020 — but no longer!
What with Disney shuffling around the release dates for many of their upcoming movies, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Disney's Jungle Cruise now has a new release date — as well as their upcoming, live-action remake of Mulan. It's official; Disney's Jungle Cruise will now set sail on July 30th, 2021 (via Deadline).
You read that right, the live-action film has been delayed by more than a year. This extreme change was likely made as many of the movies that Disney would have released in 2021 have had their productions put on hold. Thus, many of them will likely not make their intended release and, therefore, Disney's release schedule for 2021 would be pretty sparse otherwise.
Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, Disney’s JUNGLE CRUISE is an adventure-filled, Amazon-jungle expedition starring Dwayne Johnson as the charismatic riverboat captain and Emily Blunt as a determined explorer on a research mission. Also starring in the film are Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, with Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.
