Florence Pugh has cemented herself as a powerhouse talent in recent years, whether it’s in movies like Midsommar and Oppenheimer or as the MCU’s new Black Widow.
Is it possible the British actress will next lend her talents to a Disney Princess?
According to intel shared by reliable social media scooper @MyTimeToShineH, the Hawkeye star is currently Disney’s top pick to bring Rapunzel to life in its live-action Tangled remake. The physical resemblance is oddly uncanny and the 27-year-old definitely has the right dramatic and comedic stylings to do this character justice on screen.
Released in 2010, the original animated adventure's popularity has only grown in the years since, with Rapunzel now one of Disney's most beloved and iconic Princesses.
Tangled grossed just shy of $600 million at the worldwide box office upon release and starred Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, and Donna Murphy.
Moore played Rapunzel but the ship has likely sailed on her and Levi getting to reunite on screen as the characters they first played well over a decade ago. Pugh will have to work hard to top her predecessor’s performance (particularly when it comes to some of the character's memorable songs) but we’re sure she’ll give it her all should this role eventually head the Thunderbolts star’s way.
Disney has yet to officially announce plans for Tangled, so you’re best off taking this rumour with a pinch of salt for now.
Still, if Pugh does land the role, we'll be very interested to see who ends up starring opposite her as Flynn Rider. It won't be easy for any actor to hold their own opposite a talent this big, though we're sure Disney must have at least a few names in mind.
Sadly, we don't anticipate any solid updates until after the WGA and SAF-AFTRA strikes conclude (which requires studios to treat writers and actors in a far more respectful manner).
Do you think Pugh would be right for Tangled's new Rapunzel?
