Artemis Fowl is an upcoming, science fantasy film directed by Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient Express) — based on the book series of the same name. The cast includes Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Colin Farrell, and Judi Dench.
The titular character is a 12-year-old boy with exceptionally high intelligence. Artemis is a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds and will use his wit to find out what happened to his mysteriously missing father.
Artemis Fowl was to debut in theatres on May 29th, however, what with the Coronavirus pandemic that's currently plaguing most of the world; the movie will no longer arrive in theatres but rather debut on Disney's streaming service. The change was announced earlier this month but a release date wasn't disclosed at the time.
Thankfully, Disney has now announced a new release date for Artemis Fowl. Unfortunately, the movie won't arrive on the streaming service on the same day that it would have arrived in theatres. Anticipating fans will have to wait until June 12th, 2020 in order to stream Artemis Fowl on Disney+.
The new release date was announced with an action-packed, new trailer — which you can check out below (via @Disney):
Disney’s Artemis Fowl, based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, is a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his father who has mysteriously disappeared.
With the help of his loyal protector Butler, Artemis sets out to find him, and in doing so uncovers an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies.
Deducing that his father’s disappearance is somehow connected to the secretive, reclusive fairy world, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan—so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies.
Artemis Fowl is set to debut on Disney+ on June 12th, 2020.
