During Walt Disney Animation Studios' Annecy Animation Festival this morning, a sneak peek of Zootopia 2 was shown off to the audience which revealed new details about the film's plot.
Judy and Nick find themselves at a glamorous party where a mysterious book is set to be unveiled, only to uncover that the notorious Gary De'Snake is planning to steal it. To their surprise, they learn the book may actually contain evidence that could redeem Gary’s tarnished reputation.
However, when the heist goes awry, things take an unexpected turn: rather than catching Gary in the act, Judy and Nick are mistakenly identified as his accomplices. Forced to flee together, the unlikely trio goes on the run, now fugitives from the ZPD.
As they race to clear their names, they stumble onto a darker truth, the real villain is still out there and has already committed murder to get their hands on the very same book. Now, with the law chasing them and time running out, Judy, Nick, and Gary must unravel the deadly mystery before more lives are lost.
"Nick and Judy are now Zootopia Police Department’s newest rookie cop partners,” co-director Jared Bush stated to the Annecy crowed. “But the question of this movie is whether these two animals, who are so different, really have what it takes to stay together in the long run. In other words, if the first movie was like their honeymoon, this movie is what moving in feels like.”
He went on to add, "Ultimately, our mismatched pair of a bunny and a fox shows us that even in a polarized world where our differences so often push us apart, sometimes just simply trying to understand each other and talk to each other can be the thing that allows us to mend our broken world together.”
Zootopia 2 hits North American theaters on November 26th.
