Based on the book series of the same name; Artemis Fowl is an upcoming, science fantasy film directed by Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient Express). The cast includes Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Colin Farrell, and Judi Dench.

Just like the books, the movie follows the titular Artemis Fowl as he seeks to find his mysteriously missing father. Artemis is a 12-year-old with exceptionally high intelligence and descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds.

Originally scheduled to release in theatres in August 2019, Artemis Fowl was notably delayed to May 29th, 2020. However, not even the latter release date is accurate anymore. What with the Coronavirus pandemic that is currently plaguing the world, Artemis Fowl was bound to be subject to another delay.

However, it turns out Disney has opted to scrap the movie's theatrical release entirely. Artemis Fowl will now debut exclusively on the Disney+ streaming service. Disney+ Content President Ricky Strauss had the following to say about the decision to release Artemis Fowl through the streaming service (via Variety):

"With audiences largely unable to attend theatres in the current environment, we are thrilled to offer the premiere of ‘Artemis Fowl’ on Disney+," he began. "Director Kenneth Branagh and his spectacular cast take viewers right into the vibrant, fantasy world of the beloved book, which fans have been waiting to see brought to life onscreen for years.

"It’s great family entertainment that is the perfect addition to Disney+’s summer lineup," Strauss finished. When exactly will Artemis Fowl debut on the streaming service? Well, that much is yet to be disclosed. We'll be sure to update as and when anything is officially announced.

Disney’s Artemis Fowl, based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, is a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his father who has mysteriously disappeared.

With the help of his loyal protector Butler, Artemis sets out to find him, and in doing so uncovers an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies.
Deducing that his father’s disappearance is somehow connected to the secretive, reclusive fairy world, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan—so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies.

Artemis Fowl will debut on Disney+ in 2020.
