Say what you will about the quality, or lack thereof, of Matt Groening and 20th Century Fox's
The Simpsons, but there's no denying that it deserves all of our respect for having managed to stay relevant for s long as it has; debuting in 1989 and becoming a worlwide phenomena overnight.
A couple of weeks ago, there were reports doing the rounds claiming that
20th Century Fox would be renewing Matt Groening's long-running series in spite of the Disney acquisition currently taking place — although neither of the parties involved commented on these rumours.
Today it has finally been confirmed that
The Simpsons will, indeed, be renewed for not one, but two more seasons; having been on the air for an impressive 713 episodes by the time Season 32 is over — keeping its title as the longest-running primetime scripted TV series completely intact.
The Simpsons is currently on its thirtieth season and it getting two more seasons is solid proof that, as long as the series has an audience, we'll keep getting more episodes every Sunday — which is something that long-time fans of the series will likely appreciate.
