Caleb McLaughlin rose to fame playing the character of Lucas on Netflix's sci-fi horror series Stranger Things. Now, the actor has expressed his interest in taking on a superhero role, but not just any superhero role. McLaughlin specifically namedrops the character of Static, best known for the 2000s Static Shock animated series, as a superhero he would like to play.
During a Q&A at 2022's Heroes Comic-Con in Brussels, McLaughlin said the following: "What other movie would I like... I want to do a superhero film. I would love to play Static Shock honestly... I would want to do something like a superhero." The actor goes on to explain that he would gladly play any other superhero character but it's clear that Static is where his head's at.
"I'm really open to being any character. I feel like I can play anybody honestly. It really -- I feel like how I pick my films is really what speaks to me. Also, I'm also developing other projects myself that will be coming out. Not soon, but soon. But yeah, it really doesn't matter actually. It's just whatever like project speaks to me and my creativity."
Static was created back in 1993 for Milestone Comics by Ben 10 and Justice League Unlimited writer and producer Dwayne McDuffie as well as Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle. The quartet would go on to give the character his own hit animated television series in 2000 which is where Static really made a name for himself.
Interestingly, there is already a live-action adaptation of Static Shock in the works at Warner Bros. and Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) is attached as producer. There hasn't been much news on that project in quite a while, but if that Static Shock movie is still in development and they're in need of a Static, McLaughlin is as good a choice as any.
