Hotel Transylvania: The Series, the animated cartoon series based on the popular Sony Pictures Animation movie franchise, has been a decent success for both the studio and networks. According to Deadline, the first season of
Hotel Transylvania: The Series was among Disney Channel's top three animated series among Kids 6-11 (340,000/1.4), Girls 6-11 (221,000/1.9), Kids 6-14 (430,000/1.2 rating) and Girls 6-14 (285,000/1.6). With that sort of performance, it should come as no surprise that hte series has been picked up for a second season. New episodes will be broadcast on Disney Channel in the U.S. and their global territories, along with Teletoon Canada.
Hotel Transylvania: The Series serves as a prequel to the original
Hotel Transylvania movie, set four years prior to the events of the 2012 film. It focuses on the teenage years of Mavis and her friends at the Hotel. The season two overview, according to Deadline, reads:
Season two follows the wild (mis)adventures of Dracula’s teen daughter Mavis and her pals Hank N Stein, Pedro, and Wendy Blob. Dracula’s older sister, and minder of Mavis, Aunt Lydia remains supremely evil, but this time the audience will see her bonding a bit more with her niece and revealing that she does have a soft spot for family.
The series renewal follows the summer release of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, which went on to set a new franchise record at the global box office. Its $497.7 million global haul made its Sony Pictures Animation's highest grossing film worldwide ever. As a franchise, the Hotel Transylvania movies have combined to gross over $1.3 billion worldwide.
