The CW is well known for being the home for DC television shows, and it has been for years. Even though HBO Max may threaten the sustainability of the shared universe of series, they currently brandish several.

Once known as the Arrowverse, but now referred to as the CW-verse (much to the chagrin of Stephen Amell), numerous shows spun out of the Batman-inspired Arrow. These include Supergirl, The Flash, Constantine, Stargirl, Black Lightning, Swamp Thing, Superman & Lois, Batwoman, and Legends of Tomorrow.

Before that, however, the CW sought to build a universe using the 10-season Superman prequel series Smallville as the base. With failed Aquaman and Wonder Woman pilots, the station decided against spinning off their own Oliver Queen in favor of Stephen Amell's fresh and darker take - which ultimately proved to pay off tenfold.

Still, for a decade, Smallville was considered amongst fans to be the pinnacle of superhero television - even without the cape. For those fans, it was a treat to see Tom Welling, Erica Durance, the Kent family farm, the crops, and the theme song all incorporated into the CW-verse via Crisis on Infinite Earths mega-crossover.

Luckily, those who jumped at the cameos in the special will be pleased to learn that Tom Welling himself has announced that he and Lex Luthor actor Michael Rosenbaum are still working on an animated series follow-up to the popular show, hoping to share the Smallville world with a wider and younger audience. Check out Welling's announcement via Twitter below.

Here's where things get even more interesting. Two days from now, Allison Mack, who played Clark Kent's best friend Chloe Sullivan in Smallville, who in turn went on to become romantically entangled with the show's Green Arrow, is facing a prison sentence which will be formally announced in just two days on Wednesday, June 30th.

We won't share all the details of her court case here, but it's certainly an odd coincidence that this resurgence in excitement for an animated revival of Smallville has come in conjunction with Mack's sentencing. Still, it's going to be an interesting marketing campaign.

What do you guys think about the latest for these three Smallville stars? Fans of the show will dig our chat with Michael Eklund, who not only played Maddox in Smallville but also returned as The Dollmaker in Arrow and Rasputin in Legends of Tomorrow, which we've included below.
