She-Ra and the Princesses of Power has debuted on Netflix and seems to be a hit with viewers, viewers who have made it abundantly clear that they'd love to see the likes of He-Man or the Masters of the Universe show up at some point during the new animated series.
However, She-Ra's showrunner Noelle Stevenson recently told Inverse that He-Man making and appearance is off the table. "It would be a challenge, I think, to bring He-Man to life in the present day. Even more so than She-Ra. He's a very iconic character. It'd be a lot of fun to incorporate him into the world of She-Ra, but I don't know what my approach would be."
One of the major factors for the iconic characters, like the Masters of the Universe, remaining absent is to not rip the spotlight away from She-Ra herself - she is the lead afterall. "It's sort of a dance of figuring out how to incorporate the larger lore of Masters of the Universe without needing to visit Eternia or see these very, very iconic characters appear. Just letting it be about She-Ra's story and her being disconnected from where she came from, from her family or Eternia."
The fact that Sony bear the rights to the Masters of the Universe, and not DreamWorks, also likely plays a part in their absence from the animated series. Perhaps in a future season.
What do you think of Stevenson's statement? What are your thoughts of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power thus far?
