Batman turns 85 years old this year and as part of Warner Bros. Discovery's anniversary, the company has partnered with LEGO for a new set celebrating the Caped Crusader.
Revealed today, the LEGO DC Batman Gotham City Skyline set is a recreation of Gotham City as it appears in Batman: The Animated Series.
The new set is a pretty hefty build with 4,210 pieces. But upon completion, you'll have a magnificent 3D recreation of Gotham City, complete with some of its most famed locations, including Gotham City Court, Arkham Asylum, the classic Batwing and Bat Signal.
And that's just the beginning. The set is full of fun references and Easter Eggs with parts of the set that open up to reveal more intricacies inside.
Four minifigures are included: Batman, Catwoman, Joker, and Harley Quinn. They each come with their own unique accessories, which include a batarang for Batman, a whip and diamond for Catwoman, TNT for the Joker, and a gun for Harley Quinn. All four characters can be displayed on a perch between two stone gargoyles.
The set itself can be displayed on a shelf or can be hung on a wall.
The LEGO DC Batman Gotham City Skyline set is priced at $299.99. It will be available for LEGO Insiders starting April 1, 2024, and for everyone else from April 4, 2024.
Created by Bruce W. Timm, Paul Dini, and Mitch Brian, Batman: The Animated Series debuted on Fox Kids in 1992. The series ran for 85 episodes before ending in 1995.
During its run, the series won multiple Daytime Emmy Awards, as well as the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Programming.
It's now considered to be one of the greatest animated television shows ever made. It has been praised for its mature tone and storytelling, soundtrack, and visual aesthetic.
Of course, we also can't forget the amazing performances from its voice cast. Bruce Wayne/Batman was voiced by the late Kevin Conroy who, to this day, is still considered to be one of the best incarnations of the character. And then we had Mark Hamill (Star Wars) as the voice of Joker. The two can be heard together as Batman and Joker one final time in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part 3, which was worked on prior to Conroy's passing.
Batman: The Animated Series is also notable for the introduction of Joker's assistant, Harley Quinn, who became so popular she was later added to the mainstream comic books. Quinn was voiced by Arleen Sorkin in the series.
Although Batman: The Animated Series ended in 1995, it's set to receive a spiritual sequel, dubbed Batman: The Caped Crusader. The new animated series is in the works with original series co-creator Bruce Timm on board alongside J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves.
