Star Trek: Lower Decks will return for a new season on Paramount+ on September 7. The 10-episode third season of the program ended with the Cerritos crew successfully preventing their ship from being replaced by a newer model that came equipped with a planet-destroying AI system.
Unlike other Star Trek series, where the starship captain or other senior personnel are often the major protagonists, Lower Decks concentrates on the tasks and exploits of the "lower deckers," low-ranking officers with menial job responsibilities. The captain and other members of the executive team are only supporting figures.
Showrunner Mike McMahan previously teased, " I think it’s our best season yet. It’s our funniest. It’s our most dramatic. It’s our most T’Lyn-filled. I’m just loving it. There’s an amazing episode where we go to Orion, which I have been dying to do for so long."
McMahan also teased, "In season 4 you will see more Peanut Hamper… I don’t think she will ever get another full standalone Peanut Hamper-style episode, but you get a really fun good Peanut Hamper story in season 4."
The series features the voices of Tawny Newsome (Brockmire) as Beckett Mariner, Jack Quaid (The Boys) as Brad Boimler, Noël Wells (Saturday Night Live) as D'Vana Tendi, Eugene Cordero (Loki, Kong: Skull Island) as Sam Rutherford, Dawnn Lewis (A Different World) as Carol Freeman, Jerry O'Connell (Sliders, Piranha 3D) as Jack Ransom, Fred Tatasciore (The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Gears of War) as Shaxs, and Gillian Vigman (MADtv, New Girl) as T'Ana.
The most popular episode of Lower Decks is arguably the animated and live-action crossover with Brave New Worlds from season 2. So far, the show has yet to top that episode but could things change in season 4? The trailer for season 4 is teasing a Deep Space Nine crossover so it just might deliver.
Ahead of the Season 4 premiere, Paramount has already renewed Lower Decks for Season 5.
Boldly going where no man has gone before, but lower. Star Trek: Lower Decks is a half-hour animated comedy which focuses on the support crew who serve on one of Starfleet’s least important ships.
